Description: The Stanford University Spine Center is a leading multidisciplinary center for the research and treatment of spine disorders. A one-year research fellowship opportunity is available for individuals wanting to pursue an academic career in PM&R spine care. The fellow will gain valuable experience in research, education and clinical care from the fellowship director and from a diverse multispecialty group of academic spine faculty.

Duties: The fellow will serve as a Research Fellow under the supervision of the Director. No less than half of the fellow’s time will be dedicated to a highly evolved research program. Substantial resources are available to support this effort and to ensure a productive research experience. In addition, basic science research opportunities are available through interdisciplinary efforts for those interested. The fellow will also serve as a Visiting Scholar of the Stanford University Division of PM&R in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This involves participation in regular didactic seminars and the education of PM&R residents and fellows. The fellow will have the opportunity to regularly observe the care of patients in the PM&R spine clinics, interpretation of advance diagnostic imaging and performance of interventional spine procedures in the outpatient surgery center. A complete array of basic and advanced techniques are performed in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, including transforaminal and interlaminar epidural injections, facet joint injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency neurotomies, provocation discography, functional anesthetic discography, percutaneous discectomy, vertebral body augmentation, and sympathetic blocks.

How To Apply: The ideal candidate will be a board-eligible or certified PM&R physician in his/her country of residence with a demonstrated interest in spine research and will have proof of sufficient funding to complete the program.
